The clock hit 3pm, with no
carp to our name, some consilation for us was that only 2
carp had been caught on the lake (weeners at
that). But never the less a new approach was the aim for the cold
evening shift!
After i quick walk down the other side of the lake i soon
realised why we had seen no movement from carp all day, the other
end was literally heaving with fish, reeds twitching, fish
topping, bubbles under the overhangs, it was all there plain to
see. So grabbing my bait bucket and swiftly informing Ace of the
new intel, i strolled down the other end of the lake to bait a
few spots i had noted earlier in the day, 6-8 handfulls of bait
later i sat back and waited as i concentrated over the half a
dozen spots i had baited right under the near side bank.
10 minutes past and i casually walked up to grab one of me
tribal 9/11 ft all rounders which would be
perfect for some margin action, as i returned round the lake,
Nothing. After another quick lap i was trundling through one of
my baited spots when i spotted the tell tale singular tiny
whirpool on the surface of what must be a patrolling carp, the
margins are deep here, perhaps 4-6ft in places right off the bank
so little more than a single bubble or tiny whirl was all i
needed.
My heath ledger was slowly lowered so as not to spook anything,
after quietly placing a bank stick in and adjusting y bait runner
i slowly moved back in anticipation, moving round the bank to get
a better view of the spot i noticed a bow wave flying up the
lake, and second to that my clutch screamiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.
Picking up the rod i felt strong resistance, perhaps a double but
maybe bigger was my first thought, tho once again we will never
know as after 5mins playing the carp it slipped the hook in
typical fashion.
Later to this my partner (Ace) was on hand to offer some
confidence boosting "you tosser" was the words on his lips i
believe, great. Though all was not lost, after a couple of fast
reaction sprints by Ace he was able to bank a small mirror around
6lb and also a ghostie of around 8lb, though the bigger residents
avoided us we will Jermaine (Defoe) be making another hop over to
Manvells Farm in the coming
weeks.
